It’s been a few months since there’s been a new post here of any variety.
Make no mistake; I’m not apologizing.
It’s the Maybe Blog.
So anyway! I’ve got a new project to share for Harts Fabric as part of their Street Team. Let’s start with the good news; the scrumptious rayon twill they provided me, nearly 5 months back, is still in stock! I had requested it to make a Frisco Jumpsuit after testing the pattern. So while I’m disappointed those sewing plans didn’t make it to fruition, this paisley, in rich ochre, burgundy, and royal purple feels much more seasonal now. The relatively new Papercut Pattern, Nexus Blouse, caught my eye (probably because one of the modeled samples was sewn in a lovely mustard fabric), so I sprung for the opportunity to try it.
Hey, there’s no bad news!
I chose the view with the longer, curved hem and with the input of followers on Insta, decided to go for the sleeve style that’s gathered into a long cuff with 2 buttons; and I cut a straight size 4 based on a bust measurement of 37”.
The Nexus is designed to be worn with the buttons down the front or back, and one can also tie up the hem. I almost can’t decide which way I prefer.
The construction is straightforward. I will note that I made 2 small departures from the instructions. I turned the outer edge of the neckline facing under before edge stitching it in place.
And where the facing/placket meets the hem, I flipped it so right sides were together and stitched across the facing at the hem allowance (1 cm) so that when turned out, the hem pulls under for a nice finish.
One of the things I love about Nexus with her statement sleeves is that one can still comfortably wear a jacket over those sleeves without a lot of uncomfortable bunching going on. I layered my Tamarack jacket over Nexus here to show you.
I had all sort of good intentions of photographing this blouse outside, but I fell back to my trusty #greigewall as a backdrop.
Thanks, Harts, for the fabric, pattern and buttons! This gal officially has her sewjo back and she’s planning to hop on the other view of Nexus soon.
